Reduced Fee Representation

Family law attorneys across the state work with Legal Aid of Nebraska to give victims of domestic abuse a voice in their family law cases by providing representation to low-income clients needing help in protection order, divorce and custody matters.

A BATTLE FOR HER CHILDREN

Legal Aid helps domestic violence survivor keep kids out of abuser’s custody

Jennifer lived in an abusive relationship for almost three years before her husband was sent to prison for beating her so badly she was sent to the hospital.

GET INVOLVED

The legal system is complex for any pro-se litigant. But for an individual seeking legal redress in matters involving domestic violence and threats to safety and well-being of the client or children, the prospect is particularly daunting.

Representation by a lawyer can help prevent future abuse, decrease homelessness for a client who had to flee the home, prevent loss of custody, and obtain an equitable division of any assets and debts in a divorce.

Attorneys can provide pro bono assistance, or, in the case of contested divorce and custody matters, Legal Aid pays attorney fees at a reduced contract rate.
