Lukas Sutton is Legal Aid of Nebraska’s new Grants Writer and Manager, working to ensure funding for Legal Aid of Nebraska.
What brought you to Legal Aid of Nebraska?
Throughout my career in nonprofit fundraising, I’ve always held a deep respect for the work done at Legal Aid of Nebraska as well as the culture of the organization. As my career has developed and grant writing became an area I wanted to focus on, the opportunity to perform that role within such a fantastic organization is an honor.
What do you find most compelling about the work that you do?
I love being able to work with different program areas and program staff to highlight all the work being done for our clients and for our communities. I’ve always had a passion for writing, so being able to utilize my skills to further the mission of an organization like Legal Aid of Nebraska is amazing.
What started you on the Grant Writing/Fundraising path and where did you go to college?
I received my undergraduate degree from Wayne State College. I started my fundraising career path quickly after college, interning with a nonprofit organization in their development department. It was during that internship that I developed a passion for nonprofit fundraising and being able to advocate for the work nonprofits do across the communities they serve.
Who has inspired you the most in your career journey?
I’ve been so fortunate to work alongside many inspiring co-workers and supervisors in my career, but my wife has truly been the driving force that has inspired me throughout my career. She’s been a consistent voice of advice, but her passion within her own career goals has inspired me to challenge myself and get a better sense of my goals.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
During my free time I enjoy being outside with my wife and two year old son, usually just trying to keep up with the pace of a two year old. I’m also an avid soccer fan and enjoy going to Union Omaha matches on weekends.
