Staff Attorney (Omaha)  

Legal Aid of Nebraska seeks an Associate Attorney for its Omaha office.  Successful applicants have good research, writing, litigation and communication skills. Staff Attorney (Youth Re-Entry-Lincoln)

Legal Aid of Nebraska seeks an attorney to assist youth and young adults up to age 24 with legal issues resulting from involvement with the juvenile or criminal justice system. The attorney will provide re-entry legal services to youth and young adults residing in Lancaster and Douglas Counties that have been adjudicated in juvenile court, to address barriers to employment, housing and education. This includes but is not limited to providing legal assistance with: juvenile and adult record sealing, setting aside criminal convictions; housing rights including evictions; special education rights; and school disciplinary issues.

The attorney will also:

  • Provide outreach and education to key stakeholders and youth about youth re-entry legal services via clinics and presentations,
  • Develop resource materials for re-entering youth and stakeholders,
  • Develop and maintain a blog, and
  • Help recruit and train mentors to work with re-entering youth.

Travel throughout Douglas and Lancaster counties is required to meet with youth and stakeholders, and to conduct outreach, education and legal clinics. Other travel within and outside the State of Nebraska may be required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to plan and work independently are required. Must be licensed to practice law in Nebraska, have a current driver’s license, and properly licensed and insured vehicle. Ideal candidate will have experience in working with youth or providing re-entry legal services.This is a full-time position requiring a committed individual. Company cell phone and laptop will be provided.Location in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Staff Attorney (REACH Initiative North Platte)

Legal Aid of Nebraska seeks a staff attorney for the REACH Initiative (Raising Effective Advocacy for Crime Victims Health and Safety). The position will be located in North Platte. REACH Initiative attorneys will bring legal services to communities in central and western Nebraska by providing a range of civil legal services to low-income victims of domestic violence, elder abuse and exploitation. The attorneys will travel regularly to rural communities to establish and maintain community partnerships, conduct community education, and provide quality civil legal services.

Successful applicants will have good research, writing, litigation and communication skills. Successful applicants will also have a demonstrated interest or experience in advancing goal of equal justice for all. Must be admitted to Nebraska bar or out-of-state bar with pending waiver application to Nebraska bar.

Must have a current driver’s license and properly licensed and insured vehicle.

Paralegal-Native American Program (Norfolk)

Legal Aid of Nebraska, the statewide provider of free civil legal services to low-income Nebraskans, seeks a paralegal for its Native American Program. The position is located in the Norfolk office. The paralegal will be a part of a project with attorneys who primarily who primarily represent Native Americans across Nebraska. The position requires taking applications from individuals seeking legal assistance through the Native American Program, which includes obtaining information from individuals to determine eligibility for services, conducting client interviews and conveying advice provided individuals by an attorney. This position will be working with issues involving domestic violence and sexual assault.  The paralegal will also be responsible for providing litigation support, including but not limited to drafting pleadings and correspondence, interviewing clients, and conducting legal research. The paralegal may assist in outreach to Native Americans. Occasional travel to Omaha, Winnebago, Macy, and Santee required. Applicants should have good document drafting, file management, organization, computer, and communication skills and must be willing to perform general office tasks. One year or more of paralegal experience and/or paralegal studies educational program and training required. Ideal candidate will have a connection to Native American issues.
