Development/Communications/Event Planning Internship

Legal Aid of Nebraska (LAN) is seeking a Development/Communications Intern to assist with fundraising, marketing/PR, social media, event planning, etc. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in learning about non-profit fundraising and advocacy. This unpaid/volunteer internship is a great resume building opportunity that can be for class credit or simply for experience and will last a minimum of 12 weeks with a minimum of 120 hours. Schedule and hours are flexible based on the needs of the intern, and, while he/she will have a dedicated workspace in our office, much of the work can be completed remotely.

LAN is the only non-profit law firm in the state. We provide “dignity, hope, self-sufficiency and justice through quality civil legal aid for those who have nowhere else to turn.” The fundamental goal of legal aid services is simple—to provide free legal representation to underprivileged citizens and to cultivate self-sufficiency among clients. Legal Aid also delivers innovative, specialized programs in order to strengthen the community on top of providing advocacy, legal representation and counseling to all eligible clients.

We assist victims of domestic violence, homeless, Native Americans, elders, farmers and ranchers, refugees, migrant farm workers and many others through various programs and services.

Qualifications

  • Must be outgoing, professional, organized, detail-oriented and able to meet deadlines
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Must have excellent research skills
  • Must be computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (knowledge of graphic design software a big plus!)
  • Interested in advocacy for equal justice
  • Must be enrolled as a student in course of study related to communications, public relations and/or marketing

Job Duties May Include:

  • Develop and implement marketing/PR/social media strategies and content
  • Analyze email marketing and social media metrics
  • Research new and advanced non-profit marketing methods
  • Research current donor/supporter demographics
  • Research new grant opportunities
  • Draft news releases and media alerts
  • Assist with communications for our 2015 annual giving campaign
  • Assist with general development writing and grant writing, including donor correspondence and client stories
  • Assist with planning and execution for upcoming events, including online giving days, our annual golf scramble, and workshops
  • Develop web copy and assist in the planning and creation of  new pages
  • Work with staff to keep an updated record of all LAN activities and post these events and workshops on our online calendar
  • Assist with miscellaneous administrative work like copying, proofreading, etc.
